Würde zumindest die Kernwählerschaft erreichen :D (also Rentner).

Interesting Article on Free Speech and Censorship

While #Federated systems branch & bud to maintain #FreeSpeech in online #SocialNetworks, the "evil" Ad based Megalodons struggle with content moderation.
I'm not 100% sure how to moderate my own #Friendica servers when questionable content arises; I know how to delete posts, but it's hard to know why before they arise. My main plan is to not be an #Asshole.

hat if Fediverse ( #Friendica ? #Hubzilla ?) could allow receiving email to your nickname@server.com account?
This is quite old idea and I believe it can easly implemented but only one question stops me from move to this direction - this is spam. I really don't want to get deal with unsolicited emails in the Fediverse too.

💡 Fediverse idea

Today it's still impossible to complitely get rid of #email . If you're like me, you probably communicate via email very rarely, modern communications happen in messengers - or in #Fediverse :) But we still need email for all sorts of singups, and for receiving information like bank letters, service notifications etc.

Fediverse has all sorts of bridges, to Gopher, IRC, XMPP, etc etc.
What if Fediverse ( #Friendica ? #Hubzilla ?) could allow receiving email to your nickname@server.com account? An extra inbox, sandboxed from posts and (direct) messages. I suggest only the receiving functionality (and UI), because of the difficulties of properly configuring email servers to not be banned by main email providers. Ensuring that email is received by users is probably easier than ensuring their replies are delivered to "traditional" providers. This will allow users who need an email only for occassionally receiving information to do it directly in Fediverse (adding one extra reason to use it).

Many people say it's difficult to set and maintain one's own email server. At the same time, "alternative" email services (believed to be #privacy friendly) invariably rely on trust: no matter that they open sourced frontend code and sometimes mobile clients (and even added encryption), we always have to trust the code they actually run on their servers (just like we trust the administrator of our Fediverse node). Fediverse has over 4k servers, Friendica and Hubzilla together - over 600. This functionality will help decentralizing email.

@Hypolite Petovan said
it would be challenging because email works on ports 25 or 465 or 587 (TLS) while Friendica is made to receive requests on ports 80 or 443 (SSL). So there would need to be some additional server configuration required for this to work.
What are your thoughts on this, fedizens? What are the technical challenges? Can this be added as a plugin?

Friendica Directory User Preferences

Hello all @Libranet Support
If you want your profile to be found in the user directory of your Friendica node or in the global Friendica directory, you should enable the following settings:

Image/Photo

These settings are implemented as opt-in during registration. They are therefore deactivated by default for new users.

The advantage of being listed in the directory is that you will be better found when users search for potential new contacts.

This is how it looks in the global Friendica directory:

Friendica 2019.04 released

This release fixes a bug allowing unauthorised access to private postings under certain circumstances.

How to update

For this release notes we assume, that you are running Friendica 2019.03 if not, please update to that release before proceeding.

Using git

If you have used git for installation, update your system simply by doing a git pull in the core repository of Friendica. The fix is applied to the master and the devel branch of the repository.

An update of the addons repository is not needed.

Using the archive files

Before uploading the extracted files from the archive please make sure that you have a backup copy of your configuration file (config/local.config.php).

Please download the archive file friendica-full-2019.04.tar.gz which contains the needed 3rd party dependencies.

Compared to the 2019.03 release only four files have changed: CHANGELOG, VERSION, boot.php and mod/display.php.

Extract the archive and upload the contained files (all or only the four mentioned above) to your server.

Post upgrade procedure

There should be no action necessary after the files are exchanged if you were updating from the 2019.03 release of Friendica.

Side-by-Side comparison of photo management with Hubzilla and Friendica

Both these social networks have some basic photo and album management. But neither is a proper photo management service so you won’t find advanced manipulation.

Both will upload photos into albums. Friendica has proper shown drag-and-drop and whilst I got Hubzilla once to accept a drag-and-drop it failed after that (there is no shown area for drag-and-drop on Hubzilla). Both will allow photo uploads with no status post being generated.

Friendica allows you to add an album on its own whilst Hubzilla wants albums created during the actual photo upload, Friendica also allows you to edit album names whilst I could see no function like this on Hubzilla.

After uploading both allowed a photo edit to include its caption, rotation, and tagging. Hubzilla allows location to be allowed or removed whilst Friendica by default disabled/strips metadata you could opt to allow it in the settings, but not seemingly per photo.

Viewers can like or dislike photos for both services, and neither display EXIF info.

For file types both allow jpg and png basic images but neither allow video uploads by default. The idea for videos is you embed or link to them in posts but they don’t appear in the photo galleries. Friendica has a video menu tab but even after creating a post with an embedded video, nothing is shown on the video tab. Hubzilla actually displays a preview of a video file that is uploaded and attached to a status post, but after posting the status post appears without any video visible at all (linking or embedding does display).

For album/photo privacy Friendica allows an album’s visibility to be set, but Hubzilla does not have this and it is set per photo. So Hubzilla may have a single album that will show all public photos but friends or family could see additional photos you had marked for their access.

On file size limits Friendica does allow some maximums to be set easily in the Admin settings for max size in bytes, max length in pixels, and/or jpg quality. BUT if the photo exceeds these limits Friendica just displays a “failed” message with no indication of why. Hubzilla seems to rely on PHP config max file size only. Neither does any automatic resizing on upload that I can see.

So, in summary, both really only do very basic photo management for posts and for both, your posts need to link to videos hosted elsewhere. It’s not to say videos are impossible as you could likely FTP them to the server and link to them but that is hardly user-friendly. On the plus side, videos can chew up a tremendous amount of storage space so it could be that Hubzilla and Friendica were intended to keep the hosting requirements lightweight.

The attached image shows the photo gallery view with Friendica on top and Hubzilla below it.

finding dates for events with several participants

Hey lovely federation/fediverse, is there some method for #Friendica (or #Hubzilla?) to do what you can do with #doodle.com?

(which is: suggesting a number of #dates in a nice little table and have all other potential participants confirm which of those dates they can or cannot attend to; lovely thing to have when you're planning a bike tour with 8 geographically separated and way too busy people...)

I couldn't find any #event functionality or plugin like that, but I may just be searching for the wrong terminology.
Anyway, thanks for any hints. Cheers!

Looking for an alternative to Blogger of ggl

!Friendica Support
Image/Photo
It has been a long time now I'm looking for an alternative to #blogger, a place that is as simple to implement and use and that would allow an easy transfer of what I already built in ggl. I use it mainly to publish pictures and posts over my ceramic and some writing work. In few words, #blogging in an aesthetical though simple environment.
For a moment I though that hubzilla would be an option. Yet all these places, including Friendica and Pluspora, seem to be made for those who now but not the lamba basic user like me. So I haven't found a help file or tutorial that would help me to start up and there I am...
Therefore, I'm posting a shout, a call, a cry for #help and #advice ! :^)
1. Is #Friendica an adequate place for blogging with aesthetical theme ?
2. Would the answer to above question be positive, will libranet.de allow me to do so ? (@support@libranet.de)
3. If answer to question 1 is negative, what do you recommend as free blogging plateform providing similar performance to blogger ?
4. Will such plateform be compatible with Friendica and supported by the instance libranet.de ?

American Football is getting started, so...

#FantasyFootball is getting going too. If anybody on #Friendica #Mastodon #Diaspora #Prolerma #Pixelfed #GNUsocial or any #Federated #ActivityPub user on earth wants to try it, I can be the Commissioner.

I've run leagues in the past and I set the points so that it's hard for a skilled person with advanced game knowledge to have an advantage, and beginners have a real chance at winning. In the past, I did leagues with buy-in and free to enter. Both are equally fun. The buy-in leagues had trophies and all the buy-ins were paid out in prizes; any manager had 50:50 odd's of winning back their buy-in.

Setup my own hosted Friendica and Hubzilla Social Network nodes for comparison

Both of these social networks are powerful in their own right in terms of not just detailed profiles and blog posting, but also have photo galleries, calendars, messaging, integration with Twitter and other networks, and of course federated posts across Diaspora, Mastodon, GNUSocial, each other, and also other networks.

What I was showing in the attached photo is the profile view of each (Friendica on top and Hubzilla below it) and more specifically how my auto-imported (mirrored) RSS feed gets imported. Both import the text fine but Hubzilla does better in terms of perfectly displaying the post along with its image.

I hear some asking what is Friendica or Hubzilla? Essentially I'm hosting my own "Facebook" which my friends and family (or I could open to the public) could use just like Facebook but without adverts or privacy intrusions. One difference here is various people host their own "nodes" but anyone on any of the nodes can follow someone at a different node as if it is all one big hosting platform. This gives flexibility for different rules and functionality at each node. The hoster can make them as open or closed (private) as they want to.

I'll post more observations in future about the two networks. My profiles are at https://friendica.gadgeteerza.co.za/profile/danie and at https://hubzilla.gadgeteerza.co.za/channel/gadgeteer.

Meine Browser Konfiguration

Screencastify – Screen Video Recorder

This might suck, but I think it was needed...

Before I launched a #Friendica #server, I looked for a #demo on the system to see if I would like it better than Diaspora or other options. I couldn't find such a video so today I finally made my own. I know I have technical issues and it was an unplanned wandering through, but hopefully, I get others to make better ones.

Can't figure out how to add an email contact here (or at least export to email), although wiki says it's possible. There's no "Connectors" under "Settings" 🤔
