I hear they're going to be introducing plastic cards with magnetic strips and a scannable chip soon so people don't have to use smartphones to make payments and so on.
You'll be able to use it in shops, supermarkets on buses and trains a.s.o.
You can also use it to get "cash".
Cash? That's what you can use to buy stuff even if there's no communication network working - even if there's no electricity (as in war) - and it leaves no audit trail !!!

you go to the bus stop, you are riding the metro, waiting in line for coffee, go to a theater, or watch a trials race, and your son's ballet practice :) and what is nearly everyone around you do? Play with a mass surveillance a/v gov.agency gadget (that they worked for). If you find ONE person that doesn't it may be worth talking to, the rest of the zombies are all too far gone to reason with.
