@Muse While working at the University of Utah a number of my co-workers were Japanese, and we were also friends. Some were Japanese American- others were directly from Japan with work Visas. We socialized together. At the time, being ignorant, I was amazed how their food was like little artistic creations. In comparison I realized that we Americans must seem like barbarians to them - always rushing, and sloppy. Never taking the time to create or do much of anything in a precise, and beautiful way.
It all comes down to what a culture values, doesn't it. Japan values beauty. The US values climbing the corporate ladder. Finland values a friendly and relaxed pace to life.
